John Erich Christian
John Erich Christian is a Postdoctoral fellow at UTIG, studying the dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets and how they respond to climate. His primary research approach is to use a combination of simple and sophisticated glacier models, alongside analysis of glacier and climate records, to understand the leading controls within the natural systems. Currently, his main focus is on outlet-glacier variability and understanding the relative roles of natural and anthropogenic forcing in driving industrial-era changes. Before starting at UT, John received a PhD in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington, and a BA in physics from St. Olaf College. In Fall 2023, John will be starting as an Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon
